Christmas Treats using candy canes

With Christmas right around the corner, and cookie swaps/exchanges to be had. I wanted to share a few of my easiest treats I've found and have used the last couple of years. We give these out to family, friends and neighbors. It's our tradition to bake our little hearts out and package them all up , gt them pretty and give them out.

This year I wanted it to be really easy, so I made up a G-E-T solution. So I had 3 things in mind when picking out the Christmas Treats...
1. They have to be Good {like oh my gosh good, I've I wouldn't eat them why would I give it to someone else}
2. They have to be Easy to make. Try to use the oven as less as possible.
3. They have to have less than Three Ingredients

So with that this is what I came up with:

This first one is my absolute favorite and it is sooo divine!!!

Peppermint Oreo Bon Bons aka..Chocolate Truffles

I've made these for the past several years and they love them. My Blessed Life {picture above} has posted her recipe for hers click here. 

Here's my version of it..

Ingredients:
1 (8 oz.) package cream cheese, softened 
I package of Mint Oreo Bon Bon {I use the double stuff...he..he. I love the frosting}
1 Package white or whatever color  Chocolate Candy Coating or Almond Bark 

Equipment:
1 Food Processor
1 mini ice cream scooper

• Line 2 cookie sheets with waxed paper or parchment paper.
• Put Oreo's {including the frosting} in a food processor, you can break them up so it's easier and faster, and run until the consistency is like grounded coffee...it kind of looks like it too. 
• Add the cream cheese a little at a time to the oreo mix and mix until its all mixed together. It will be somewhat sticky, it's ok
• Using a cookie scoop or large spoon, form "balls" from the mixture and place them on the cookie sheets, 1 inch apart.
• Refrigerate bon-bons until hardened in texture, about 30 mins{in freezer} or 1 hour {in refrigerator}
• During this time melt your chocolate,  in microwave or over broiler or stove top {microwave is easiest}, the consistency should be smooth when it's ready. 
• Using a large spoon or fondue fork dip the oreo "balls" in the chocolate, evenly coating and placing on cookie sheet again. It doesn't have to be perfect...no worries. They are going to be eaten anyway. 
• Allow all oreo bon-bons to set. I usually put mine in my freezer and let set in their for about 20-30mins. Garnish as desired. (I have done all sorts of different versions: Drizzled with tinted white candy coating with different color combinations; sprinkled with crushed candy canes for Christmas, there are so many possibilites with them.
• Once set enjoy these rich little delights. They are simply divine...I think I'm re-naming them to Oreo's Divine {LOL}

Peppermint Bark Cookie Tartlets

I found these a couple years ago on nestle's website and have used ever since. They are yummy, click on the picture below {finished product to go to their site}. They have some other yummy, easy recipes. 

Ingredients:
1 pkg of already made cookie dough {can get in refrigerated section at store}
2-3 crushed candy canes
1 pkg of white chocolate chips

Supplies:
1 mini muffin pan
mallot or rolling pin to crush the candy canes
plastic sandwich baggie

Ingredients

• 1 1/4 cups (about 1/3 tub)  Refrigerated Sugar Cookie Tub Dough, slightly softened
• 1/3 cup plus 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
• 1/2 cup  White Chocolate Morsels
• 1/2 cup finely crushed candy canes

Directions

PREHEAT oven to 325º F.

COMBINE cookie dough and flour in large mixing bowl. Divide dough into 24, 1 1/4-inch balls. Press dough into mini-muffin cups.*

BAKE for 10 minutes or until light golden brown around edges and puffy.

REMOVE tartlets from oven and immediately fill with morsels and crushed candy canes. Cool for 10 minutes in muffin cups. Carefully remove to wire rack, do not invert; cool completely.

*If making tartlets in batches, keep extra dough in the refrigerator.

WLW - Decorating Update

So last week was our last week with the Women Living Well - Making your home a haven and the challenge was this...

November 26th - Decorate! The holidays are upon us. Ann Voskamp says “Creating is good theology. In the beginning God created.” Be creative as you make your home warm, cozy and inviting for the holidays. Think about ways you can keep Christ in Christmas even in the way you decorate.

I just didn't get around to downloading the pictures and updating until now. My mother-in-law and daughters helped with all the decorations. My mother-in-law has an eye for decorating and she was such a heaven sent. My daughter also pazzazed some candles below. So this is what we did...enjoy!

" Twas the Night Before CHRISTmas"

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
None of God’s creatures were stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In truth, it was Christ’s birth that had put them there.

God’s children were nestled all snug in their beds,
Unlike the baby Jesus, with no place to lay His sweet head;
Mother Mary and Joseph, and some shepherds perhaps
Watched over our Savior as He peacefully napped.
When up in the sky there arose such a clatter,
That three wise men grabbed the best gifts they could gather.
Away to the Messiah they flew like a flash,
To see our Redeemer in the flesh at long last.

The star in the sky gave off such a glow
Shining with the luster of mid-day to objects below,
When, what to their wondering eyes should appear,
But the stillness of the star showing they must be near.
It’s unclear how long they traveled, but it was quite a bit,
Still they knew by the star’s pause that this must be it.
Three gifts they brought to little Jesus when they came,
And they rejoiced as the angels had as they praised His name;

“Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace among those whom He favors!
To the top of the mountains!
To the bottom of the sea!
Our Savior is born to save both you and me!”

As God’s children sleep, safe in their beds,
Both Father and Son watch over their heads,
Loving them enough to number each countless hair,
We’ve no way to earn their love, but every way to share.
Giving gifts as the wise men did is a fun tradition,
As long as the point of Christmas never goes missing.

Deck the halls and trim the tree,
Hang the stockings and dance with glee.
Share the joy of CHRISTmas which no wrapped gift could match,
Tell of the Babe wrapped in cloth who brought us freedom at last;
A bundle of joy lying in the manger,
Sent to save us from unspeakable danger.
His life for ours, what an amazing gift!
He was born so that man might no longer perish!
His life was as pure as the day He was born,
As He taught us the greatest lessons we’ll learn;
Be devoted to one another in brotherly love,
Don’t try to be pleasing to man, but to God above;
Build on the Rock and not the sand,
Keep an open heart and an outstretched hand.

So many people are in need this Christmas,
Let God use you to fulfill their wishes;
Give as you’ve been given to,
You provide for others and He’ll provide for you;
So speak of His Word, and get straight to His work,
Always giving Him the glory since it all came from Him first.

Remember, it’s God’s children in this world that are the light,
Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!

JESUS is the ReaSON for the SeaSON!!

JESUS is the true meaning of the SeaSON

And she will bring forth a SON, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins." So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the LORD through the phrophet saying "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which is translated, "God with us" 
Matt 1:21-23

He is the true and only reaSON why we celebrate CHRISTmas. Recently I posted a blog about CHRSITmas traditions, it's great and all but I failed to put the true meaning of the Season.  It's not about having the best looking trees, the best decked out homes, the perfect CHRISTmas pictures, throwing the best gatherings, giving, spending time with family and friends, wrapping the perfect gifts or getting the perfect gifts. It's ALL because and about Him that we celebrate, remember and live out. He came so that we might live, it's a choice we have to make.

And He came in the most humbliest of ways. In a dirty lowly manger, in a feeding troth, I am sure that it didn't smell pretty either! Have you ever been to a ranch or a farm? I used to live on a mini one and whoaa the smell of the animals and let alone there poop!! The next time you are around animals or a farm take in the smell and remember that's how he came into this world? It definetly wasn't pleasent and neither was His death. I wonder what Mary thought of the place she had to give birth. These days you can plan your birth and the facilites to have them is amazing with all the technologies, and they spoil you while you are there with steak dinners. But Mary didn't have any of that. Just her and Joseph giving birth to most precious gift ever.

 I recently went to a ladies tea at my church and it was grand, I have to say. But in that I was reminded it wasn't about the fancy occasion it's all about Him. And all the struggles His mom went through to get him here and then to be born in such a humble way. And then everything He did for us. I am in aweee of all of Him and what He has done for me and for you. His unending love for us, sinners. He came in the humbliest of ways because he loved me and you. A wretched being that I am, I do not deserve this love...we don't. But that is just how good God is. He loves you sooo much, sooo much and then soooo much more.

If things are not going your way this CHRISTmas remember all that He did for you. We are soo blessed, so very very blessed. If you can breath your blessed, if you can get up out of your bed and walk you are blessed. If you can open your eyes your are blessed. If you live in a warm home your blessed today, for there are many that haven't been warm in years. If you can decide what to eat for dinner tonight you are blessed. If you can't decide what to wear your blessed. If you crawl into a nice warm bed your are blessed. We are sooo blessed we sometimes don't even realize it or we can take for granted. If you have Jesus in your heart then you are blessed beyond measure because you will live in eternity with Him and that is the best blessing of them all. I can't wait until that moment comes.

Here's a few tips you can use this CHRISTmas to decorate your heart with:

• Decorate your heart with His love
• Sing songs of Praise to Him
• Thank Him for sending Jesus
• Thank God for loving You
• Thank Him for all that He has done for you
• Remember what is true and lovely, count your blessings name them one by one
• Think about all the things He has blessed you with
• Thank Him for giving us the most precious perfect gift.
• Show Gods love to others, even if it's just a smile :)

God Bless you this CHRISTmas, take that time to spend with our Heavenly Father and truely thank Him for the perfect gift He has given us His Son Jesus CHRIST!!!! That truely is the best gift we will ever recieve.

CHRISTmas Traditions

Well CHRISTmas is only 15 days away {Squeal! Squeal!}! And this is a very special time of year for me and my family, along with Easter, where we celebrate Jesus' birth....even more and dig a little deeper. There are many CHRISTmas traditions out there. I had a few friends ask me so I thought I'd share.....

Begining of December we do our Advent Devotions, I've posted about them in my previous post before this one. And for me the traditions are based on spending time with the Lord digging a little deeper as a family and doing special things/gatherings for family time. There are so many opportunities this month to share the gospel and the love of Jesus with others, people seem a little more open and receptive. These are also great teachable moments to share with your children. Below are just some things we've done throughout the years, we don't get to do everything but just a general idea, if your looking for some.

Family Devotions:

• Advent Devotions and candle lighting
• CHRISTmas story books for bedtime

 Family Fun Events:

• CHRISTmas Play Programs
• Minivan Express with Family and Friends: going around to neighborhoods with CHRISTmas lights, this is also a teachable moment with shining the light of Jesus {we did this last night after a CHRISTmas Program and it was soo much fun!!!}
• CHRISTmas Concerts or Symphony {Every year a beautiful singer from our sister church does a beautiful CHRISTmas concert every year...I can't wait for this one tonight!!}
• CHRISTmas Movie Nights: w/hot cocoa and popcorn {I recommend The Heart of CHRISTmas-this was a aweome movie, CHRISTmas shoes, The Nativity Story, The First Noel}
• Winterfest Fairs: they usually have these at your local city halls {a time of fun with family}
• Live Nativity {it's a re-enactment of the special night of Jesus Birth}
• CHRISTmas Fellowships/Gatherings {a special time to celebrate with family and friends to fellowship with one another}
• Cookie Exchange, invite friends over to bake cookies for your neighbors and go caroling when dropping them off, and share God's love.

CHRISTmas Eve

•  Sat Morning Big Breakfast {this is our weekly tradition and do it when we are home}, since CHRISTmas is eve is on Sat this year. It is usually Eggs, homemade hashbrowns, turkey bacon and Christmas music in background.
• CHRISTmasService
• CHRISTmas Eve Gathering and a potluck, we usually let our girls open one gift this night when we get home {usually pj's and CHRISTmas socks so they can wear for the next morning}. We'll stay up really late and watch a CHRISTmas Movie
• Watch the Nativity Story Movie

CHRISTmas Day:

•  CHRISTmas Breakfast: I will bake Cinnamon Rolls {Sally Clarkson has a very sweet recipe click here}, or French Toast {Rainey French Toast click here, I made these last year so yummy} or something sweet, gewy and yummy delishious....and Hot cocoa. It just has to be sweet and something we wouldn't normally let them eat just by itself.
• We listen to some of our Favorite CHRISTmas Music and let the girls open gifts.
• CHRISTmas morning Service {we try to attend this service, maybe if we show up in our PJ's lol}
• Home for Quiet Time with the family and remembering why Jesus came...
• Special CHRISTmas Dinner:  I will deck out the table and bring out the fancy plates and listen to CHRISTmas music while we eat Ham and all the Fixings...I will be posting the Menu and some recipes that I've used soon.

That's just a glimpse of some of what we do. Every year we'll add some or take some out. Sometimes we aren't able to do everything and it's not my goal,  just being together as a family and being able to resonate upon Jesus, bask in His glory, that's what matters. And you know it's just nice to take that extra special time to remember what Jesus came into this world to do. Everyone is different and you may or may not do any. It's just a way to go a little deeper and remember.

The Heart of Christmas, the RooMag Website and Advent

 Hi ya'll...I pray that ya'll are having a blessed month so far. Hold on tight...to Jesus that is....I know this month you can get carried away in the busyness of it all. But take that time to spend with the Lord, bask in His presence allow Him to minister to your heart. The True meaning of Christmas is Jesus and what He came to do....save us! <3 There will be lots of movies, and traditions going and I wanted to highlight a movie, haven't seen it yet but, the trailor is really touching. Watch the trailor below, it will be airing tomorrow night on GMC {Gospel Music Channel, so check your local listing}. Candace Cameron Bure will be featured in it. This will be a great night for a family night!

Also Candace Cameron Bure has also opened up a new website called ROO Mag, go check out her website. It is filled with alot of encouragement from gals all over the blog world {whom are Christians}, it has ideas for recipes, home decor, encouragement for you and much more. some of my favorite blog sisters are featured on their as well.

Advent
I know many have already started and in the swing of things. Every one is different and don't feel like your left behind or not on schedule. I wanted to share some great ideas on the Advent. In our home we do an advent wreath and starting this Sunday we will begin the advent readings. I love this time to spend with my family. It's a time to just stop, and bask in His presence and remember His love for us. I had posted last year our Advent Devotional and the scriptures to go along with check it out here.

Untangling Christmas!!

This is such a great idea....I have something similar. I have a master planner book for the whole year and I have used a planner similar to this one when I worked a couple years ago. I had been wanting something similar but faith based of course. And as always Courtney always pulls through. I know God has placed this woman in my life for a reason!! I have never met the woman, but am praying I get the chance to one day, but she is just an encouragement to me. Check out her video on her planner so you can get an idea. Monday: Peace on Earth Challenge!

 I absolutely love this chapter in Psalms. I love it that it says He makes me lie down in green pastures. I'm glad that He makes me because I probably wouldn't on my own. Like today, when I came home I just needed to rest. Our bodies will let you know when to rest it. God will let you know when you need to rest in Him. When we rest in Him He restores our soul, Amen! He guides me in paths of righteousness. It's so very important to rest in Him. Just like we rest at night to be able to get up the next day. We also need to rest in Him so that He can restore us.



Below is the Peace on Earth Challenge for today, Monday, from Woman Living Well.

So our challenge this week brings Psalm 23 to mind.


1. The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not be in want. 2. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters. 3. He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Are you experiencing the green pastures, the quiet waters and the restoration of your soul that Psalm 23 speaks of from resting with your Shepherd?

Remember how the crowds pressed in on Jesus every where he went. Every where he turned there was a need unmet and though there was SO much to do - he withdrew to rest. Luke 5:16 says,"But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed."

If Jesus needed alone time with God then certainly we do. Just think of the wisdom he wants to impart to you, the strength and the peace you may be missing out on.

Give yourself permission to not have your to-do list all checked off in order for you to rest and get alone with God.

This week's challenge: Pull out your calendar and SCHEDULE a night where you will go to bed very very early. Take your Bible with you to bed and read in bed for at least 5 minutes. Read in Isaiah 7:14, Micah 5:2, Jeremiah 23:5, and Isaiah 53. These are prophecies that were fulfilled by the birth and life of Jesus. Get extra blankets for a warm nights rest, pray God gives you deep rest and that no one wakes you. Then turn out the lights and sleep. I pray that when you wake, you face the new day of Christmas stress with extra strength and vigor.

Advent and Peace on Earth Challenge Reminders

Sun. December 12th: Advent Calendar-The second candle, is lit on the second Sunday of advent along with the first candle, is the Bethleham candle, reminding us where Jesus was born. It too is purple, for our king who was born in the manger. Suggested Bible ready: Micah 5:2, Luke 2:1-7. To see complete post on that go to the Advent Post.
We usually do this after Dinner time. The kids love to blow out the candles and my bigger will usually take turns with us reading the verses.

Mark your calendars for Monday, it's just around the corner, and it will be time for a new Challenge for the Peace on Earth Challenge over at Women Living Well.

Mon., December 13th: At this point, you're just 2 weeks from Christmas and there is still so much to get done. You need EXTRA rest! Pull out your calendar and SCHEDULE a night where you will go to bed very very early. Take your Bible with you to bed and read for 5 minutes. This is one I am making sure that I will do. Getting to bed early is sometimes a challenge for me. I love to go to bed reading my bible, so this was a no-brainer. But I don't do it all the time as much as I should. So the going to bed early will be a challenge, but I will let you know how it turned out.

Advent Wreath!

Advent, a time to prepare. Anticipating a big event stirs the senses and builds excitement. The word "advent" refers to the coming or arrival of Jesus Christ and traditionally consists of four Sundays prior to Christmas Day. Advent is a time for us to focus on the scriptures that herald Jesus' birth and to prepare our hearts to celebrate anew His coming.

A traditional part of advent that you might want to incorporate into your celebration is a wreath consisting of four candles evenly spaced around is circumference with one candle in the center. The circle represents God's eternal love that knows no end and the wreaths greenery represents the everlasting life that Christs brings. Each candle symbolizes an important aspect of Christ's birth and is lit on a particular Sunday in advent.

The first candle is lit on the first Sunday of advent, shortly after November 30th. Is is called the prophecy candle and reminds us that Jesus' coming was prophesised hundreds of years before He was born. The candle's purple color represents Christ's royalty and His title, the King of Kings. Suggested Bible reading: Isaiah 9:2-6, Luke 1:30-35 { I usually will have one child light candle or myself and one read the scriptures}

The second candle, is lit on the second Sunday of advent along with the first candle, is the Bethleham candle, reminding us where Jesus was born. It too is purple, for our king who was born in the manger. Suggested Bible ready: Micah 5:2, Luke 2:1-7

The third candle, lit on the third Sunday of advent along with the first two candles, is the shepherds' candle. We are reminded that God sent the angels to proclaim His arrival to common man and that He uses common folks still today to spread the good news to Christ. This candle is pink or rose and represents God's love and faithfulness. Suggested Bible Reading: Isaiah 52:7, Luke 2:8-12.

The fourth candle, lit on the fourth Sunday of advent, si the angles candle. When we light this flame, we are reminded of the heavenly hosts who proclaimed Christ's arrival with, "Behold, I bring you good news of a great joy!" The angel candle is also purple, reminding us that the angels proclaimed a King's Birth. As the number of lighted candles increases, the room becomes brighter, reminding us that the time for the Light of the World to arrive is drawing near. Suggested bible reading: Exekiel 34:23, Luke 2:13-20.

The fifth candle, the Christ candle, rests in the center of the wreath and is lit on Christmas Eve. This candle is white, symbolizing Christ's holiness, purity, and perfection. You can also light this candle for the entire day on Christmas. Suggested bible reading: Isaiah 9:2-6, John 1:6-13.

Supplies needed: 1 advent wreath, 3 tall purple candles, 1 tall rose candle, and 1 white pillar candle.

Advent, will start Sunday, Dec 5th. But don't feel bad if you don't do it on that day. Do it on a day that works for you. Christmas Falls on a Sat this year. So maybe do every Saturday, or whatever. Theres no wrong way to do this. The point is focusing on Christ this CHRISTmas.

Peace on Earth

                                                                                                

I have to say that I am sad to see Thanksgiving gone. But it was such a blessing, I was sick-which was ok,  I was with family and couldn't have asked for anything better. Most important of all I was with my savior, my King, Jesus Christ. I do have to admit it wasn't the perfect Thanksgiving {and it's not all about that} but it was the best.  God is showing me some new things this season. I had to be still and let go of the "to do" list. I'm lister type of person, have lists for everything. I'm learning to be content with today and what it brings. For today is a gift, ........let us rejoice and be glad in it {Psalm 118:24}. We are not promised tomorrow, so make the most of today. {easier said than done}

As tomorrow will begin, the first day of December, I am reminded of the true meaning of CHRISTmas. The one and only reason He came into this world...."for God so loved the world that He gave His one and only begotten son that who so ever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16. He came so that we will have eternal life with Him, for those who belive in Him. He came in such a lowly way, there was no extravagent entry. He wasn't even born in a hospital, not even a nurse. But there He lay in a manger, a troth of where the animals ate, so innocent, so humble. How incredible that is, those things didn't matter to God. It's funny to think, I got to chose what hospital my babies would be born in and even got to pick the day she was born. But not Jesus.......he came so that we might live!! That was His main purpose..........It's amazing! His love for us is truely amazing. Everyday He is there, everyday with open arms ready to begin again with us. Would you bask in His love for you today. He LOVES you sooo much that He gave His life for you.

Amoungst my remindings I came across this great December Challenge that Woman Living Well is doing. It was another great reminder to not get caught in all the hustle and bustle. But to really, really seek His face. Be at His feet, rest in His never ending loving arms. In my quiet time I love to picture myself running up to God, like a giddy little girl, and Him having His big arms wide open to catch me and rock me in His loving arms. It's the greatest feeling and picture. And it's real....it's so real I could feel it, I could feel His arms hugging me. Can you? Just imagine it and let it come to life. Some people have asked me recently how I spend my quiet time and tell them just that. Just being, being with Him. I remember when I was a little girl, all day long {during the summer time} I would wait, and wait for my daddy to come home. I'm sure I drove my mom nuts I think I asked 20 times in a day "When is Daddy coming home". I would yearn to see my Daddy, just to be in His arms {Mom I love you dearly}. Then when He finally would come home I would run up to Him and embrace His arms. And that's just how I spend my time with God, only He's always there all the time, I don't have to wait to be with Him.
